Weißer Marmor. Der Künstler wirkte in allen Gattungen der Bildenden Kunst, als Maler, Architekt und vor allem als bekannter Bildhauer des französischen Barock. 20-jährig ging er nach Rom. Dort war er an der Ausmalung des Palazzo Pitti in Florenz beteiligt, bevor er sich später der Bildhauerei zuwandte, spürbar unter dem Einfluss von Bernini. In der Plastik liegt auch seine Bedeutung. Seine Werke finden sich im Louvre, ebenso wie in Marseille. Berühmt wurde u. a. sein „Milon von Cronton“ im Louvre, seine Atlanden in Toulon oder die Parkfiguren in Versailles. Die Christusbüste verrät bereits eine Beruhigung der Barock-Plastik, erfordert wohl auch durch den zeitlosen Ernst des Themas. Die Büste zeigt langes, in Locken zur Schulter herabfließendes Haar, der Kopf geneigt, mit nach innen gerichtetem Blick.
