Bronze, dunkelbraun patiniert. Bronzeplastik eines Hahns mit schläfrig geschlossenen Augen. Der Bildhauer war zunächst Steinmetzhandwerker, bildete sich jedoch an der Kunstakademie weiter, ging nach Paris, wo er auf den Bildhauer Pierre-Louis Rouillard traf. Mit Plastiken kleineren Formats wurde er im Pariser Salon beachtet und wurde von Auguste Rodin aufgenommen, dessen Werkstatt er drei Jahre leitete. Erst 67-jährig gelang sein Durchbruch mit Tierplastiken im Stil des Art déco. Aufgenommen in die Ehrenlegion, errang er nun auch allgemeines Ansehen.
Sein Werk „Coq Dormant“ stellte er 1914 im Salon aus. Bis 1933 wurde er von der Hébrard Gallerie, des bedeutenden Editeurs der Moderne vertreten. Seine Werke stehen im Metropolitan Museum ebenso wie im Museum von Luxemburg, oder im Musée d´Orsay in Paris. In seiner Geburtsstadt wurde das François Pompon-Museum eröffnet. A.R.

Signed on lawn plinthe and foundry stamp “Cire Perdue A.A. Hebrard”. Cast of 1925.
Bronze with dark brown patina; signed on grass plinth. His work Coq Dormant was exhibited at the Salon in 1914. His works can be found in the Metropolitan Museum, the Museum of Luxemburg, or the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
