Bronzeguss nach Modell, dunkel patiniert. Unter dem Felsensockel gekehlter Rundsockel. Dem Adler-Thema hat sich Barye mehrfach gewidmet.
Der für seine Tierplastiken berühmt gewordene Bildhauer war Schüler des François Joseph Bosio. Früh erfolgreich, stellte er alsbald im Pariser Salon aus, schuf u. a. die Reiterstatue für Napoleon I in Ajaccio. 1869 wurde er Mitglied der Akademie der Wissenschaften und Schönen Künste von Belgien. Viele seiner Werke in öffentlichen Sammlungen, vor allem im Louvre. (1401581) (11)
