Zeitgemäß im Oval vor dunklem Hintergrund gezeigt, mit betontem, gerüschtem Dekolleté, wobei die rechte Hand mit einem Pelzbesatz den Ausschnitt verdeckt. Der ansprechende Blick ist auf den Betrachter gerichtet. Die sehr hohe Malqualität des Gesichts, die sich von der Behandlung des Stofflichen abhebt, lässt die Zusammenarbeit im Atelier eines Malers von Rang mit Gehilfen erkennen. Die Vorbesitzertradition nennt den Namen Francois d´Aubigné, marquise de Maintenon (1635-1719), die Mätresse und morganatische Gemahlin Ludwigs XIV. Ähnlichkeit im Vergleich mit weiteren Bildnissen stützt diese Vermutung.
