Der Maler zählt zu den bedeutenden Vertretern der Landschaftsmalerei der Münchner Schule. Nach Ausbildung an der Akademie bei Ed. Schleich und Adolf Lier schloss er sich dem Kreis um Christian Mali und Anton Braith an und entwickelte wie diese die Freilichtmalerei, angeregt durch die Schule von Barbizon. 1886 zum Professor ernannt und mit zahlreichen Ehrungen ausgezeichnet, stellte er in nahezu allen bedeutenden Museen, so etwa auch im Münchner Glaspalast aus. Das Gemälde beweist Willroiders Können in der Behandlung von Licht, Stimmung, Figurenstaffage und Tiefenwirkung. (14010223) (11)
