Offensichtlich als Paar gestaltete Gemälde in Anlehnung an Joseph van Bredael, von dem der Maler die erzählerische Motivik, die flussnahe Komposition und die lichten, stark ausgeprägten flämischen Farben übernimmt. Einmal mit niedriger Kate deren Bewohnerin im Begriff ist Textilien zu bleichen, wodurch der offensichtliche sonnige Charakter des Tages unterstrichen wird, an dem auf dem einen wie auf dem anderen Bild Figuren mit dem Beladen oder Löschen von Ware auf einem Segelschiff beschäftigt sind.
