Der Blick führt hier in eine italienische Landschaft, die links im Bild zu bergigem Horizont zieht. Die rechte Bildseite zeigt Tempelsäulen, Bögen und einen Sarkophag auf hohem, reliefbesetztem Sockel. Links weiter hinten gruppieren sich Häuser am Flussufer. Zwischen beiden Bildzonen ragt nahezu trennend ein schlanker Baum hoch, die Baumkrone vor hellen Wolken. Die Beleuchtung von rechts aus niedrigem Sonnenstand vermittelt eine Stimmung der Frühromantik. Dem entsprechen auch die Figuren, die zwischen den Ruinen wandeln.
Der von Prof. Succi vorgeschlagene Maler war bis 1743 tätig, überwiegend als „Meister der Correr-Landschaften“ bezeichnet, da er in diesem Museum vertreten ist. Pietro Antonio Domenichini wirkte zusammen mit Apollonio Facchinetti, genannt Domenichini (tätig 1740-1770), sowie dem Bruder Iseppo (1717-nach 1761). Offensichtlich ist jedenfalls auch der stilistische Zusammenhang mit Werken des Michele Marieschi (1696/1710-1743). Den Hinweis auf den Maler verdanken wir Prof. Succi, der das Gemälde für eine Arbeit des genannten Künstlers hält.
