Die Präsentation von Orientteppichen ist das wohl markanteste Merkmal im Werk des Malers. Wie auch in weiteren seiner Bilder zeigt er stilllebenhaft arrangierte zumeist wertvolle Gegenstände wie Turmuhren, Schatztruhen oder wie hier eine Prunkkanne zwischen Glasgefäßen, Silberplatte und einem Obstteller. Auffallend sind seine oft carravagesken Hell-Dunkel-Kontraste, die Licht und Schatten betonen. Seine Vorliebe für Orientteppiche mag auf seine Heimat Malta zurückzuführen sein, damals ein Umschlagplatz zwischen Orient und Italien. Ein ähnliches Stillleben mit orientalischem Teppich (Öl auf Leinwand, 97 × 132 cm) befindet sich in der Eremitage von Sankt Petersburg. A.R. (1380754) (11)
