Jahrhunderts wohl beliebtesten Orte. Rahmen besch. (1012132) (21)

IDEAL LANDSCAPE WITH FIGURES AND BRIDGE IN THE BACKGROUND

Oil on canvas.
53.5 x 74 cm.

Francesco Zuccarelli became one of the most important protagonists of Venetian Rococo style landscape and idyllic painting in the 18th century. He was inspired by Marco Ricci’s paintings and his warm-golden colouration. He gradually specialized as a landscape painter. Between 1760 and 1770 Zuccarelli predominantly stayed in London, where he had great success with his intensely lit landscapes. The present painting with its soft colours, gentle brush strokes and clear structure exactly fits in Zuccarelli’s English period around 1750. Venetian landscape elements and fragments of ideal Roman landscapes by Lorrain, Dughet and van Bloemen are combined in our paintings. The bridge in the background is actually reminiscent of the Ponte Lucano near Tivoli, one of the probably most popular places of vedute painters of the 17th and 18th century. Frame damaged.
