Das grosse Jagdstilleben mit Feldhasen und Flugwild, darunter Schwan, Fasan, Stockerpel, Waldschnepfe und Kibitz verrät Scholderers Orientierung an den alten Meistern. Anders als bei den dramatischen, raumgreifenden Inszinierungen des Barock ordnet Scholderer die Tiere in dem Gemälde, zu dem eine zweite Version exestiert, bildparallel vor einer einfachen Holzwand an. So konzentriert er den Blick auf die rein malerischen Qualitäten, auf die feine Differenzierung von Fell und Gefieder.
