Das Gemälde, extrem querformatig angelegt, gehört stilistisch noch in die Frühzeit der Arbeiten von Keirincx. So ist auch hier der Einfluss Brueghels, mehr noch des Paul Bril zu erkennen. Das Gemälde zeigt eine klare Gliederung der Landschaft mit einer großen Baumgruppe links, einem nahezu laublosen Baum in der Bildmitte sowie einer weiteren, über den oberen Bildrand hinauszudenkenden Gruppe von Eichenbäumen. Im Vordergrund Kaskade eines Bachlaufes, über den eine Brücke führt. Am Ufer eine junge Schäferin, die ihre Füße ins Wasser hält. Die Figurenstaffage verlebendigt die Landschaft, so zieht ein älteres bäuerliches Paar in Begleitung eines Jagdhundes von rechts auf die Brücke zu, hinterfangen von Distelgestrüpp, das der Maler offensichtlich auch in allegorischer Andeutung ins Bild gebracht hat. Eine weitere Figur sitzt am Fuß der großen Baumgruppe links, mit einem geschulterten Korb. Auch an den beiden strohgedeckten Häusern links und rechts im Bild ist fein gemalte Figurenstaffage zu erkennen.
Der Maler war ab 1619 Mitglied der Antwerpener Lukasgilde. Er stand in engem Kontakt mit Cornelis van Poelenburgh (1586-1667) und begab sich 1638 nach England, wo er Aufträge von König Karl I erhielt, um eine Serie von englischer Ansichten zu malen. Seine Landschaften stehen noch ganz unter dem Einfluss des Jan Brueghel d.Ä. sowie des Paul Bril (um 1553/54-1626), aber auch des Gillis van Coninxloo (um 1581-1619/20). (1282112) (11)

The painting, laid out in an extremely horizontal format, still belongs stylistically to Keirincx’s early work. Here, too, the influence of Brueghel, and even more so of Paul Bril, can be seen.
