Das Gemälde, größerformatig angelegt, zeigt das durch Kerzenlicht beleuchtete Innere eines dunklen Raumes, in dem mehrere Hexen um einen Tisch gruppiert bzw. mit Zauberritualen beschäftigt sind. Auf dem Tisch im Zentrum ein Schädel, darunter überkreuzte Schwerter, Knochen und ein Alchimistenbuch, in dem eine alte Hexe liest. Im Vordergrund zahlreiche Tier- und Menschenknochen, dazwischen Tiere wie Schlangen, eine Katze sowie ein erdolchter Frosch. Seitlich links furchterregende Szenerien mit einem Feuerkessel, in dem ein Widder gekocht wird, daneben kniende Frauen, in Anbetung eines Hexendämons sowie in die Lüfte entschwebende nackte Gestalten. Am rechten Bildrand eine nackte Frau, die von einer älteren Hexe gesalbt wird. Dazwischen zwei gut gekleidete höfische Damen mit edlen Gesichtszügen, wohl ein Hinweis darauf, dass auch aus dieser Gesellschaft Zuflucht im Hexenmilieu gesucht wird. Im Hintergrund ein Fensterausblick auf ein Kapellengebäude, davor ein Eremmit und eine weitere Person, die dem Hexentreiben den Rücken zukehren. Die Darstellung ist durch mehrere Wiederholungen bekannt geworden, beispielsweise in der selben Gesamtkomposition, jedoch mit unterschiedlichen Kleiderfarben, wie etwa einer Dame in rotem Kleid gegenüber der Grünfarbe im vorliegenden Gemälde.

The painting is fairly large and depicts a candle-lit dark interior with several witches grouped around a table and busy performing magic rituals.
